The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) recommends that children visit an orthodontist for their initial orthodontic screening no later than age seven. By this age, any developing problems are visible to our orthodontist, and we can determine if and when orthodontic treatment should begin.
When you bring your child to studioSMILE Orthodontics, Dr. Kelly Tabacchi will perform an oral exam to evaluate their smile and diagnose any developing problems which may affect their bite, oral function or oral health. This initial evaluation will include an analysis of any bad bites as well as a thorough examination of the teeth, oral musculature, and any possible skeletal abnormalities. We will also take X-rays and discuss any poor habits which may have an effect on your child’s oral health and development.
After this exam is complete, our orthodontist will review the results and treatment options with you and discuss whether or not your child needs orthodontic treatment, and when that treatment should begin. Many children do not require treatment until they are a little older, while some begin treatment prior to their teenage years.
We encourage parents to bring their children to our office for their initial orthodontic screening by age seven. We are also happy to provide initial orthodontic exams for teenagers and adults.
